What Is EMS Electrostimulation?
EMS (Electrical Muscle Stimulation) is a non-invasive treatment that uses controlled electrical impulses to stimulate muscle contractions. These impulses activate targeted muscles, creating contractions that resemble some of those produced naturally during physical activity.
EMS is used in body conditioning treatments to support muscle activation, improve the appearance of muscle definition and complement a personalised body care programme. Depending on the device and its intended use, it may be applied to selected areas such as the abdomen, buttocks, thighs and arms.
How Does EMS Work?
During treatment, electrodes or specialised applicators deliver controlled electrical impulses to the targeted muscles. These impulses stimulate muscle contractions at an intensity adjusted to the individual and the equipment being used.
The treatment is designed to activate the selected muscle groups without requiring the same movements as conventional exercise. However, EMS does not replace regular physical activity, and the results depend on the technology, treatment protocol and individual response.
Potential Benefits
EMS electrostimulation may be used to support:
- Muscle activation: Stimulating targeted muscle groups through controlled contractions.
- Muscle conditioning: Complementing an appropriate programme designed to improve muscle performance.
- Body definition: Supporting the appearance of more defined muscles in selected areas.
- Targeted treatment: Focusing on specific muscle groups according to individual goals.
- A personalised body care programme: Combining EMS with other suitable treatments where appropriate.
The effects vary between individuals, and cosmetic results cannot be guaranteed. EMS should not be presented as a standalone weight-loss treatment.
Areas That Can Be Treated
Depending on the equipment and its approved intended use, EMS may be applied to areas such as:
- Abdomen
- Buttocks
- Thighs
- Arms
The treatment area and intensity are selected according to the device's instructions, the client's goals and individual suitability.
Treatment Sessions and Personalised Courses
EMS may be available as an individual session or as part of a course of treatments. The recommended number and frequency of sessions depend on the specific device, the treatment objective and the client's response.
During your consultation, we will discuss your goals, assess your suitability and explain the recommended treatment plan before proceeding.
What Does the Treatment Feel Like?
During an EMS session, you may experience rhythmic muscle contractions, tingling or a pulling sensation as the electrical impulses activate the muscles. The intensity should be adjusted according to the device instructions and your comfort.
Please inform your therapist immediately if you experience pain or unusual discomfort during treatment.
Safety and Contraindications
EMS is not suitable for everyone. Depending on the equipment, contraindications or precautions may include pregnancy, pacemakers or other implanted electronic devices, certain heart conditions, epilepsy, impaired sensation, active skin problems in the treatment area and some other medical conditions.
A consultation and relevant health screening are required before treatment. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions and your therapist's professional guidance.
